I planted some bulbs this morning. Honestly, despite my checking every fifteen, twenty minutes, they haven't started growing yet. It's been four whole hours! I think they're defective.

In other news, I saw a freaky looking bird in my backyard. Really, really freaky. Black and white striped, with red slashes on its head like an airbrushed VW van. Plus, it was tiny. Sparrow sized. As best as I can tell, after blowing the dust off my bird book and looking through it, it was a baby red-cockaded woodpecker. What the heck are you doing here in graffiti-land, baby red-cockaded woodpecker? Where's your mommy? You need to find some actual woods to be in.

Edited to add: Bingo! It's a yellow-bellied sapsucker. I kid you not. An actual yellow-bellied sapsucker. Who knew?

Note: Four and a half hours, and still no flowers! (Yes, I'm joking. I know they won't bloom until tomorrow.) (Yes, that was joking, too.)

Have you seen http://www.whatbird.com/ ? It's great for identifying weird birds (which you've already done, but it might be helpful in the future).

Also, I think your flowers have brain damage. Stupid flowers.

No! Really? No!!

Gah. I didn't know squirrels do that. I guess I just have to watch them.

Cannas! Three colors, the six-foot variety. If they come up.

Gee, my daughter's evil ex-boyfriend was a yellow bellied sapsucker. When did you have time to plant bulbs? I don't have the time to pull a damn weed with all there is to do for July!!!

Happily, some came late yesterday.

Dude, I planted them in Miracle Grow! Or 'Miracle Grow Garden Soil' anyway.

I'm not sensing a miracle, though. You know, if they call it 'Miracle Grow,' you'd expect the things to come up overnight. Now /that/ would be a miracle.

Honestly, I have the patience of a mouse in a cheese maze when it comes to flowers. I buy mine blooming and then put them in the soil.

That's my kind of Miracle.

I used to do that, but the price difference is incredible. And I'm poor.

Yeah, me too.

My garden is so sad.

However, the weeds should bloom soon. :-)

I also like to buy perenials so that they keep coming back. I'm done with annuals.

You should dig them up regularly and check the root progress. And talk to them while you do it. I hear talking to plants is good.

Oooh, good plan! ;D

They like fertilizer, too. Maybe I'll dump a lot of it on them. A /lot/. The more, the merrier.
