I didn't watch much TV after about 1982, and I've been slowly catching up with the 90s and 00s on Netflix. At this point, I've seen Buffy, Angel, and the Sopranos. I've also gotten current with House, BSG (for what that's worth, now that it's finished), CSI, and Criminal Minds. I don't like any of the CSIs except for the main one, and I couldn't stomach NCIS at all. I tried Firefly and couldn't get into it. Oh, and I've seen Dexter, the Tudors, Big Love, and True Blood, as far as cable goes.

I've got the first discs for Supernatural and Bad Girls in my queue to try, although I don't really know anything about either of them.

Got any TV series recommendations from the 90s or later? Anything really good that I should check out? (Anything that ran five or more seasons is a bonus.)

Twin Peaks is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I think you'll enjoy it: a soap opera pastiche with a paranormal murder mystery. Though it is much more than that, too.

Right now, I'm watching Mad Men, a period show taking place in the 60s among advertising men. It doesn't sound that good from that description, but there's a wonderful Hitchcock/Highsmith feel to the series--the main character is slowly cracking up, living the high life under a false name. It's interesting, anyway.

Right! Twin Peaks! I always wanted to watch that one, and never quite got around to it.

Gilmore Girls, Mad Men and Lost are my suggestions. And, if you can get them, new Doctor Who, Torchwood and Black Books (all English shows but I assume you can get them in the US.

D'oh! I do watch Lost, and Doctor Who, and I'm a rabid Torchwood watcher. (Or was? I'm not sure what the status of it is, currently.)

That's two votes for Mad Men. I'll have to take a look.

Black Books... that one I'm not familiar with. I'll snoop around for it. Thank you!

Be sure it's the television series and not the film. Friends in Washington state were able to get it, so it should be available.

Torchwood is coming back with a five-part story later this year.

Ooh, and the latest Doctor Who special should be out soon. I believe they were pitching it for around Easter, which is Sunday.

I understand Freaks and Geeks is not to be missed. I don't know, personally, but my daughter keeps bugging me to watch it because "It's so YOU."

That always makes me wonder what somebody else thinks of as "so you," if you know what I mean!

;)

I think she was calling me a freak or a geek. She'd not be far off from the mark! Of course, so is she. The apples don't fall far from the tree!

I liked The Pretender. When it was cancelled, I had an easy time letting go of cable tv in favour of cable for the internet.

I saw a few of those when it was on. Jared, right?

Ironically, I just saw him somewhere or other... some news site. What are the odds that that show would be come up twice in two days, after... what, a decade?... of being off the air?

Coincidence? I think not! Maybe he's going to call me. Or you.

X-Files, maybe?

I've heard the Wire is one of the best shows ever. We're watching the first season now and it's pretty good.

I've always meant to go back and watch/rewatch seasons 1-2 of Millenium, as well.

(FWIW, I've watched almost all of the first season of Supernatural and found it pretty entertaining.)

I never quite could get into X-Files when it was one. I'll try the Wire, though. Thanks!

I also recently enjoyed Pushing Daisies--quirky humor. It's only got two seasons, though... :-(

Good call! I've really enjoyed catching up on that show.

Oh, also Veronica Mars is worthwhile. I made a convert out of garunya.
